KARACHI (Dunya News) – The judicial commission investigating the Mir Raza case has directed that a notice be issued to Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar during Tuesday’s proceedings, amid a disagreement over questioning during the hearing.
Mir Raza’s father and sister appeared before the commission, while Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya also attended the proceedings and responded to questions from the commission.
During the hearing, Advocate Jibran Nasir told the commission that samples taken from Mir Raza’s body had reached the laboratory after a delay. The commission asked whether such samples had a specific shelf life.
Dr Summaiya said that, generally, a delay does not make a difference, but if no chemical trace was detected after a delay, it could not be determined whether the delay was responsible. She added that delays are generally avoided in high-profile cases.

Sindh Advocate General objected that questions should be asked by the commission rather than by Jibran Nasir. The commission responded by asking what objection the Sindh government had if the family wanted to ask questions and questioned whether anything was being concealed.
The commission subsequently said a notice should be issued to the Sindh home minister to summon him. It remarked that the minister should be called over the conduct displayed during the proceedings.
Following the intervention by the Sindh Advocate General, the commission temporarily suspended the proceedings and directed that a notice be issued to Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar.
The judicial commission was formed to investigate the death of Karachi businessman Mir Raza Ali. The case has seen renewed scrutiny following questions surrounding the circumstances of his death and differing medical findings.
