Summary The government is moving to auction 90% of locally produced liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) while reserving the remaining 10% for state-owned marketing companies
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The government has initiated measures to ensure transparent auctions and fair distribution of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), introducing a new mechanism under which sales will be conducted in the presence of media representatives.
The first meeting of a committee established for the purpose was held under the chairmanship of the Petroleum Secretary.
Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik said addressing public concerns over LPG availability and unfair pricing was a government priority.
He said the new auction mechanism would help ensure equitable distribution, stabilise the supply chain and strengthen energy security.
Under the arrangement agreed upon at the meeting, local LPG producers will reserve 10 percent of their total production for government marketing companies, while the remaining 90 percent will be sold through transparent auctions in the presence of media representatives.
The committee decided that each company would be allowed to purchase a maximum of 20 metric tonnes of LPG per day, with equal opportunities provided to all eligible companies.
It was also decided that daily LPG production would be monitored and relevant figures presented to the prime minister.
Ali Pervaiz Malik said the government's objective was to ensure better LPG supplies to consumers at reasonable prices.
