Summary NEPRA has increased electricity prices by Rs2.3673 per unit under the September 2026 fuel adjustment, with the additional charges set to appear in consumers' November bills.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has increased electricity prices by Rs2.36 per unit under the monthly Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA), adding to the financial burden on power consumers.
According to a notification issued by NEPRA, the increase has been made on account of the fuel cost adjustment for September 2026.
The adjustment reflects the difference between the actual fuel cost of electricity generation and the reference fuel cost determined earlier.
Under the decision, electricity consumers will face an additional charge of Rs2.3673 per unit in their bills, in line with the applicable FCA mechanism.
The adjustment will be reflected in electricity bills for November 2026.
Meanwhile, NEPRA has approved a Rs2.32 per unit increase in electricity rates for additional consumption by industrial and agricultural consumers, raising the applicable rate from Rs22.98 to Rs25.30 per unit.
The decision has been forwarded to the federal government for further action, with the revised rate proposed to take effect from the November 2026 billing month.
Under the existing relief package, the government provides subsidised electricity rates to industrial and agricultural consumers on consumption exceeding the units used during the corresponding month of the previous year.
The federal government had introduced a three-year relief package under which agricultural consumers were offered electricity at Rs22.98 per unit instead of Rs38, while industrial consumers received the same rate instead of Rs34 per unit for their additional consumption.
However, NEPRA has now approved an increase of Rs2.32 per unit in the discounted rate, bringing it to Rs25.30.
The regulatory authority's decision was taken through the casting vote of its chairman, while two members recorded their disagreement with the proposal.
NEPRA members Amna Ahmed and Maqsood Anwar Khan submitted dissenting notes, describing the proposed rate of Rs25.30 per unit as unjustified.
Meanwhile, the Power Division clarified that there would be no change in the regular electricity tariffs for industrial and agricultural consumers. It said the proposed increase was limited to electricity consumed beyond the previous year's corresponding monthly usage under the special relief package.
