Summary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi says PTI will proceed with its Sept 27 protest, while calling for peaceful and democratic political action.
PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has said that protesting is a constitutional right and that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf will take part in its planned Sept. 27 march with full force.
Speaking at a press conference in Peshawar on Monday, Afridi alleged that PTI was being treated unfairly and said the Constitution and law allowed peaceful demonstrations.
He said the party expected a large number of people to participate in the Sept. 27 protest and added that the detailed plan would be announced on Sept. 25.
“There is no fear, and the long march will take place under all circumstances,” Afridi said, according to reports of his remarks.
The chief minister said PTI had no intention of confrontation and was pursuing its demands through peaceful and democratic means.
However, he warned that any use of firearms could result in further violence and said the prevailing situation risked pushing the country towards conflict. His remarks were part of his criticism of the government’s handling of the planned protest.
Afridi also criticised Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s recent remarks, saying PTI workers were not terrorists and were exercising what he described as their constitutional and democratic right to protest.
He maintained that the party was pursuing a peaceful political struggle and was seeking justice through constitutional means.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan, who also addressed a press conference in Peshawar, separately reaffirmed that the party would proceed with the Sept. 27 march while saying it would remain peaceful.
