The first quarter-final was scheduled to take place at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan, but the weather conditions prevented even the toss from taking place.
With the rain continuing, officials were forced to cancel the match, leaving no opportunity for either side to compete for a place in the last four.
Following the abandonment, Pakistan secured a semi-final berth because of their higher world ranking. The national team will now turn its attention to the semi-final, where it will compete for a place in the final.
The washout means Pakistan progressed without playing the quarter-final, while Hong Kong's campaign ended with the match unable to take place.
