Summary Senator Barrister Ali Zafar alleged that the move was politically motivated and aimed at removing a political rival from power

ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Barrister Ali Zafar has alleged that the government used terrorism as a pretext to remove an elected government, claiming that its plan to impose a state of emergency has been in the works for a long time.

Speaking on Dunya News programme ‘Dunya Mehr Bokhari Kay Saath’, Ali Zafar said the government was discussing the imposition of an emergency on the grounds of internal circumstances. He alleged that the move was politically motivated and aimed at removing a political rival from power.

The PTI senator challenged the government to present evidence to the public to substantiate its allegations, saying that accusations alone were insufficient to establish a claim.

He also questioned the legality of imposing governor’s rule without a resolution from the provincial government.

Ali Zafar maintained that the Constitution did not permit the arrest of a chief minister through the imposition of governor’s rule, describing such an action as unconstitutional.
Zafar said a writ petition had been filed in the Peshawar High Court against the move.

He added that the matter would be examined by the relevant courts and that PTI would challenge the government’s actions through legal forums.
Discussing negotiations with the government, the PTI leader said a meeting with the party’s founder had been a key condition for talks.

He stated that matters concerning the postponement of the long march and the meeting had previously been settled.

Referring to Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s remarks, Zafar said the issues had been resolved during talks with the prime minister, but the situation subsequently changed.

Reiterating his party’s position, Ali Zafar said PTI would not retreat in the face of the government’s proposed measures. He added that the arrest of one individual would not necessarily end the movement, saying the party intended to continue its political struggle.
