Summary Indonesian Navy chief Admiral Dr Muhammad Ali meets Pakistan Navy chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf in Islamabad to discuss maritime security and stronger naval cooperation.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Indonesian Navy Chief Admiral Dr Muhammad Ali on Tuesday visited Naval Headquarters in Islamabad, where he was accorded a guard of honour upon arrival.
The visit focused on strengthening naval relations between Pakistan and Indonesia, with both sides discussing maritime security and avenues for greater practical cooperation.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Admiral Dr Muhammad Ali also visited the Martyrs’ Memorial at Naval Headquarters and laid a floral wreath to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in service.
He subsequently held a meeting with Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, during which the two sides held detailed discussions on matters of mutual interest, regional maritime security and bilateral naval cooperation.
The talks highlighted the importance of closer coordination between the two navies amid shared maritime security interests in the region. Both commanders discussed ways to further develop institutional and operational links between Pakistan and Indonesia.
The meeting also reaffirmed the commitment of both sides to expanding naval cooperation through training programmes, reciprocal visits and joint maritime exercises.
The exchanges are aimed at creating greater opportunities for personnel from the two navies to interact, share professional expertise and enhance operational understanding through practical engagement.
According to ISPR, Admiral Dr Muhammad Ali appreciated the Pakistan Navy’s efforts towards promoting regional maritime security. His remarks underscored the importance attached by Indonesia to cooperation with Pakistan in maintaining a secure maritime environment.
The two sides further stressed the need to strengthen relations between their naval forces through regular communication and practical cooperation.
The discussions covered avenues for sustaining engagement between Pakistan and Indonesia, with training, naval visits and joint exercises identified as key areas for further collaboration.
The visit comes as both countries continue to maintain defence and security engagement, with maritime cooperation providing an important channel for closer institutional ties between their armed forces.
