Summary An Islamabad court extended journalist Bilal Ghauri’s physical remand by two days after the NCCIA sought six more days. He will appear again on September 12.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A District and Sessions Court in federal capital has extended the physical remand of journalist and vlogger Bilal Ghauri by two days after he was produced before the court following the completion of his initial three-day remand.

Judicial Magistrate Malik Aman heard the case, during which the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) sought a further six-day physical remand of Ghauri.

Defence lawyer Imran Shafiq opposed the plea, arguing that the authorities had already completed the recovery of the relevant devices. He said the mobile phone and laptop had been taken into custody and that the authorities also had access to Ghauri’s social media accounts.

Shafiq questioned the basis of the investigation, asking how the statement attributed to his client could be considered incorrect without first questioning him about it.

Ghauri told the court that his accounts, mobile phone and laptop were already in the possession of the authorities.

The investigating officer told the court that two-factor verification was enabled on Ghauri’s accounts, causing difficulties with logging in.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court reserved its decision on the request for further physical remand.

The court later announced its decision, granting a two-day extension of Ghauri’s physical remand. He was ordered to be produced before the court again on September 12.
