Summary Businesses can pursue orders, joint ventures and technology partnerships through platform
LAHORE – The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) has entered into a collaboration with Japan’s Organization for Small & Medium Enterprises and Regional Innovation (SMRJ) to help Pakistani small and medium enterprises (SMEs) join ‘J-GoodTech’, an online B2B platform.
The initiative is aimed at giving local businesses greater access to international commercial opportunities and Japanese markets. It forms part of SMEDA’s broader push to help Pakistani enterprises expand beyond domestic markets and connect with global value chains.
The collaboration is being pursued under the guidance of the Ministry of Industries and Production (MoI&P), in line with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision of an export-oriented economy. Through the arrangement, Pakistani SMEs will be able to showcase their businesses to potential international partners and explore opportunities for cross-border commercial cooperation.
Benefit for SMEs
The J-GoodTech platform will provide Pakistani SMEs with opportunities to explore distributorship agreements, receive orders from Japanese buyers, establish joint ventures and pursue technical collaboration with companies across a global network.
Officials said the collaboration reflects SMEDA’s renewed focus on connecting Pakistani businesses with international markets and technology partners. The initiative is intended to help SMEs expand their customer base, strengthen their capabilities and participate in cross-border commercial opportunities.
Registration process
Under the arrangement, interested enterprises will be required to complete a registration form developed in line with SMRJ’s requirements. The form will be accessible through the SMEDA website, officials said.
SMEDA will scrutinise submitted applications before forwarding eligible cases to SMRJ for the creation of company profiles on the platform. The process is designed to ensure that credible and export-ready businesses are brought on to J-GoodTech, according to officials.
The initiative will give Pakistani companies an opportunity to present their capabilities to potential overseas partners while exploring commercial and technical relationships that could support their international expansion.
Priority areas
Documents show that particular attention is expected to be given to sectors including advanced manufacturing, medical equipment and eco-technology. However, outreach will remain open to enterprises operating across all sectors of Pakistan’s economy.
The collaboration is part of SMEDA’s wider internationalisation drive, through which the authority is pursuing partnerships and discussions with international development institutions, technology platforms and business networks to broaden opportunities for Pakistani SMEs.
SMEDA’s recent international engagements include collaborations with Alibaba.com and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), along with discussions with counterparts in Russia, Uzbekistan and Malaysia.
