KARACHI (Dunya News) - The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed a sharp downturn on Monday, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index losing more than 2,500 points as selling pressure dominated trading throughout the session.
The market opened the first trading day of the week on a distinctly negative note, with the KSE-100 initially falling by more than 1,800 points to around 168,691.
The bearish momentum intensified as the session progressed, pushing the benchmark further into negative territory and inflicting significant losses on investors.
By the close of trading, the KSE-100 Index had dropped 2,541 points to settle at 167,970.
The decline represented a fall of about 1.49 per cent from the previous session’s closing level.
The benchmark index had finished the final trading session of the previous week at 170,511 points.
Monday’s performance reflected sustained selling pressure at the bourse, with the market failing to recover from its weak opening during the trading session.
The steep decline also underscored continued volatility in Pakistan’s equity market, as investors remained cautious amid changing domestic and international economic conditions.
Market participants are expected to closely monitor monetary policy developments, inflation, global commodity and oil prices, as well as broader economic indicators for direction in the coming sessions.
